Sporrans and Bags : About
Initially I went to art college and studied painting but I eventually realised
that as I was more interested in the canvas than the paint, I was barking up
the wrong tree + my work gradually moved into textiles. After producing textile
collage and messing about with clothes for many years, I started playing about
with the sporran form. With so much scope to experiment, invent and push the
boundaries, I was rolling in the clover - so I bought myself a leather sewing
machine, some leather, started producing, produced some terrible things, produced
some less terrible things, produced some quite good stuff, it keeps getting better
+ here we are, you + me.
I love knowing who's wearing my work, where + why, so please send in
any pictures , messages, stories to the sporran-office + we'll get you
on the sporran-Nationals page (coming soon), 'we' being another singular unit,
the multi-faceted John Keiller, web guy - interface - designer - techno - wunderkind - bizarre repository of peculiar data(but thats another
story).
One of the reasons I decided not to mass-produce is that I want the
work I produce to remain special, particular to the people who wear it,
like all little treasures that you find - you have to seek them out.
